Children Write With Support
from a Teacher and a Speech Therapist
In this clip we get a glimpse of children in the 2nd grade writing on stories and topics they selected, with guidance from the teacher. Watch as the students work independently, share their work with one another, help one another, while the speech therapist and general education teacher go throughout the room to provide help. Several students with cognitive and language disabilities are in this class. However, all students receive help, sitting with their peers (not at the back or side of the class). You can sense the enjoyment of writing and producing. Notice how the children react to having help, what goes on around them while the teacher is helping. Notice also how help and interaction comes from both teachers and the children themselves in a natural way.
