DIALOGUE ABOUT COLLABORATIVE SUPPORT

FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS

A special education teacher and a speech therapist talk about their collaboration in supporting children with disabilities and special needs in the general education clssroom. Both go into general education classes to consult with teachers and provide instruction to students. The support staff conduct planning meetings with teachers each month. Along with other specialists -- an occupational therapist, counselor, math support teacher, and literacy specialist -- and paraprofessionals, they work as a flexible support team. They cross the traditional professional boundaries to work as a truly transdisciplinary support team for children and teachers.
